Dear TLW Members:
Recently a few electronic gaming manufacturers have reached out to us regarding the growing problem of counterfeit gaming devices in public areas, including Wisconsin taverns. Attached is a letter from a gaming manufacturer that was received by our office. We’ve received a few of these letters from manufacturers and will likely receive more.
Gaming suppliers who distribute counterfeit devices and proprietors who own any counterfeit devices in the establishment are at a significant risk of legal liability and potential court action. We recommend making sure you bring it to the attention of any gaming supplier you may work with and be sure any gaming devices you own are compliant.
Brand-name manufacturers are now focusing more attention on these devices in Wisconsin, as they have already in other states. Many of these counterfeit games are manufactured in China and brought here. So, for example, if you’ve been able to purchase any devices well below the normal market price, you would likely have reason to be concerned. Even if that doesn’t apply to you, please be sure to protect yourself from any counterfeit devices and the additional problems that can come with them.
