2019 WAMO Annual Conference!
WAMO Members Come Together for a Fun & Productive Annual Meeting!
The Wisconsin Amusement and Music Operators Association (WAMO) held their fun-filled and informative Annual Conference and Tradeshow in Milwaukee on Thursday, June 20th through Friday, June 21st. President and Conference Committee Chair Steve Murphy created a fantastic event filled with business, networking and a whole lot of fun!
Thursday featured exciting networking events for operator members and exhibitors, including a chartered fishing trip on Lake Michigan and a well-attended golf outing at the Meadowbrook Country Club.
Thursday also offered training for operators’ staff including Technik pull-tab machine repair training, an introduction to networking, modems and routers and troubleshooting and programming with Banilla Games!
Attendees finished the day by attending a Carrie Underwood concert in a private suite at the brand new Fiserv Forum/Milwaukee Bucks stadium! WAMO’s exclusive space featured ample seating and room to walk about and mingle before the show and in between acts. Good drinks, great food and fellowship were enjoyed by all in attendance.
Friday started off all business for the operators with a legislative update by WAMO lobbyist Steve Conway and business meeting where WAMO members re-elected Scott Dougherty to the Board of Directors.
The most powerful Wisconsin State Representative, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (Repub – Burlington), gave members an update from the Republican majority perspective. Topics included the biennial State Budget, transportation funding, personal property tax matters and more. Speaker Vos is a small business owner himself and understands the impact tax increases can have in our industry.
The morning concluded with Special Guest Wisconsin State Governor Tony Evers addressing attendees. As most of our members know, Wisconsin’s Governor has the most powerful veto pen in the country. The Governor is also the final stamp of approval for passage of legislation we support. As such, it is very important to build and maintain a good relationship with him.
It is extremely rare to have such a strong legislative presence year after year, especially for a group of our relatively small size. This is a reflection of the work of WAMO’s active Legislative Committee, our lobbyist and our members.
The action continued during lunch where special guest and luncheon speaker AMOA President Emily Dunn provided a national update.
After lunch, the packed tradeshow opened, where valued WAMO trade members and industry manufacturers had the opportunity to show off their latest products, games and services. Special thanks to these WAMO Trade Members for their participation and support year-round:
While the operators were tied up in meetings, the spouses enjoyed a day on the town beginning with a cooking class at Glorioso’s, followed by a trip to Foamation – the original maker of the famous Cheesehead – where the spouses had an opportunity to make their own Cheesehead or other foam products including crowns, cup holders and more.
The conference concluded Friday with a banquet and rapid-fire live auction. Thank you to everyone who made this year’s auction possible: Scott Dougherty, Penny Donaldson, Jon Kleiman, Mary Lavine and Travis Wilkinson.
Special thanks to Primero Games for sponsoring Friday’s luncheon. We would also like to recognize and express our sincere appreciation to Banilla Games for their generous support of this year’s conference, including prizes for technicians, spouses, golfers and fishermen and donating to the auction two full size games in metal cabinets with bill acceptors and software of buyers’ choice!!
Thank you to all of our members who attend the Annual Conference and Tradeshow! YOU are what makes these events so special!
